A Day in the Life: The Workplace Response to Domestic Violence training

  • City Central, Summit Room 400 East Central Avenue Ponca City, OK, 74601 United States (map)

Training Description

Domestic violence is a serious problem that impacts people in their homes, at their places of work, and in the community. One of the first steps to addressing and ending domestic violence it is to talk about it. Often friends, family, and co-workers have more knowledge of an abusive situation than any other intervening professional. It is important that communities are aware that domestic violence is an issue that affects us all and that it takes the effort of an entire community to change the social norms and attitudes that contribute to domestic violence.

This training program is an outcome of a domestic homicide that occurred in November of 2001 in Pennsylvania. The homicide was reviewed by the local domestic violence fatality review committee. Based upon interviews with the people who knew the victim and/or the defendant prior to the murder, and on information collected from law enforcement, the committee and allied professional designed this training program to implement in workplaces to help employees better understand domestic violence and how to properly respond to a co-worker who might be experiencing domestic violence.
